Blogging in The Classroom
Blogging in the classroom can help with a wide range of things. Blogging helps to engage learners and allows them to participate in meaningful rich discussions. Just think about those students in your class that never want to be called on and never participate in class but when they work on the computer and fully engaged and able to come up with ideas. Blogging can help these students to have a voice. Also blogging can help with journaling, poetry, homework, etc but its up to the teacher to find meaningful topics that will allow the students to be open to the process. The possibilities are limitless. Through blogging a teacher can engage those learners, who are otherwise, disenfranchised with the classroom.
Another good use for blogging is to keep in contact with parents. Parents have all types of questions and comments for teachers, so why not blog to let them express their thoughts. With blogging you can keep parents abreast of things that are going on in the classroom and it gives them the flexibility to access the information on their own time. With working so much and having to raise kids, parents barely have enough time to to think let alone come to a classroom. Blogging can help to alleviate that stress and takes the anxiety away from that sometimes challenging "face-to-face" contact with a parent.
